Without the artists and patrons it’s just a big empty room. Also lots of thanks to Mountain Burrito, Sour Grapes Wine Distribution, Graciela’s Cakes and the Moolah Temple $tringband.

Priscilla Wallace: Images of Thought & Memory
Mindful of the principles of design, Priscilla’s “Crafted Paintings” are part collage, part mixed media paintings, part constructions. They are likely to run off in any of these directions, or others, as the spirit moves them. That spirit expands most successfully when it is beautiful, whimsical, colorful, and rich. These pieces celebrate life in one aspect or another, and they seek to create joy in the heart of the viewer.
“For me, thoughts can be given color and form. ‘Images of Thought’ is a visual presentation of our ideas and our getting them. ‘Memory’ refers to past thoughts now reformatted and re-membered. What we feel can be given color and form as well. Although ‘realistic’ images of people, pets, and landscapes top the list of favorite subjects, there remains an important place in art for the intangible forces in our lives: our thoughts, passions, and memories. I hope I have painted them, but the viewers must fill in the blanks. It is in the blank spaces that we find ourselves.” – Priscilla Wallace
Mark Poteat: Comparisons & Similarities
This exhibition featured two bodies of work that were completed ten years apart. From the fall of 1999 to the winter of 2002, Mark completed a series of 20 paintings titled “Raft”, each with a number and in many cases a subtitle that relates to a work or figure in Art History. The imagery is composed of shipping pallets and many implements found in golf course maintenance buildings. For 4 years after returning to Morganton, NC, Mark worked part time on the grounds crew at Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club while teaching as an adjunct faculty member at Western Piedmont Community College. The “Raft” series comes from these experiences.
From 2003 thru 2008, the problem of formal pictorial space occupied Mark’s work. In the fall of 2008, he began a series of paintings titled “Factories”. The subjects of these works are factories representing the decline of manufacturing. These works express a feeling of being alive with movement and a willingness to not be defeated.
“Both of these series rely on references to art history for some of their compositions and at times added meaning. Looking back, I see both series as expressions of personal experience, formal investigations into art, and a homage to my blue collar background.” — Mark Poteat
Foundations & Explorations: An Exibition of Fiber & Clay
Thirteen fiber artists including Beth Bailey, Nancy Bailey, Jane Bradley, Norma Bradley, Linda Costner, Sally Dixon, Sondra Dorn, Vyvyan Emery, Susan Fretz, Patricia Lackey, Joanne Seng, Kristen Steiner and Jackie Williams create clothing, weaving, purses and art quilts. Through original patterns, expressive landscapes and narrative works, these artisans break out of traditional symmetrical grids making works more expressive and contemporary.
Investigations of other tactile materials may be viewed in pottery works of Western Piedmont Community College Pottery Faculty. Courtney Long, Shane Mickey and Andrew Stephenson seek to elevate routine daily tasks through thoughtfully designed, utilitarian wares.

Our biggest crowd yet with approx. 150 people attending.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Johnny Favorite.
